"#Twitter: proudly promoting ghastly grammar and silly misspelling since 2006." -E. A. Bucchianeri
Sometimes, Facebook is annoying.
Not that you've heard that before... Click HERE to see my last post about Facebook.
Oh, sure, sometimes Facebook is helpful. (Refer to the link to see my full opinion on Facebook.)
Well, I was talking to my sister today. We had just watched a Blimey Cow video, and I was sharing it on Facebook because I liked it so much. Along with the video, I wrote, "WARNING: If you're not a fan of sarcasm, do not watch this." I was reading it out to my sister just as I posted it, and she said, "Hopefully you used the correct version of "you're"." I did, of course, because I always do.
But that got us to talking about something- internet spelling. In what universe is it alright to completely ignore all spelling and grammar rules just because you're on Facebook? Do you realize it makes you look really bad? I'm sorry if it sounds rude, but consistently misspelling words on Facebook (which frequently has a built in spell-check) looks very... unimpressive.
And so, to help you figure out just how internet-savvy you are, I have included this handy-dandy system for identifying your Facebook IQ.
Here are a few things to keep in mind while taking the F-IQ (Facebook Intelligence Quotient) Test-
If you do not have a Facebook, add 45 to your F-IQ. This is your final score. See the grading chart below to see how you rank.
To answer the following questions, please refer to your Facebook page and the past 10 posts/replies you have made.
If you have...
0 outright spelling mistakes, +5 to your F-IQ.
<3 outright spelling mistakes, do not + or - your F-IQ.
3-5 outright spelling mistakes, - 5 from your F-IQ.
5-10 outright spelling mistakes, - 10 from your F-IQ.
>10 outright spelling mistakes, -15 from your F-IQ.
(Do not confuse "outright spelling mistakes" with mistypes. An outright spelling mistake would be "definately" or "suprise", and a mistype would be a-b-d when trying to type b-a-d, or typing n-e-s-t when you meant to type n-e-x-t.)
If you have...
0 mistypes, +5 to your F-IQ.
<3 mistypes, do not + or - your F-IQ.
3-5 mistypes, -5 from your F-IQ.
5-10 mistypes, -10 from your F-IQ.
>10 mistypes, -15 from your F-IQ.
If you have...
0 grammatical errors, +5 to your F-IQ.
<3 grammatical errors, do not + or - your F-IQ.
3-5 grammatical errors, -5 from your F-IQ.
5-10 grammatical errors, -10 from your F-IQ.
>10 grammatical errors, -15 from your F-IQ.
If you have...
0 incorrect homophone usages, +5 to your F-IQ .
<3 incorrect homophone usages, do not + or - your F-IQ.
3-5 incorrect homophone usages, -5 from your F-IQ.
5-10 incorrect homophone usages, -10 from your F-IQ.
>10 incorrect homophone usages, -15 from your F-IQ.
If you have...
Complete and proper use of punctuation, +5 to your F-IQ.
Mostly complete and proper use of punctuation, do not + or - your F-IQ.
Some improper use of punctuation, -5 from your F-IQ.
Mostly improper use of punctuation, -10 from your F-IQ.
No use of punctuation, -15 from your F-IQ.
You have completed the Final Part of your F-IQ test. Please see the grading chart below to see where your F-IQ falls on the scale.

Here are a few things to keep in mind while taking the F-IQ (Facebook Intelligence Quotient) Test-
- For the first question, use the baseline F-IQ of 100. For each question remaining, use your score from the previous question.
- This test is a partial test, as it only judges your ability to use proper punctuation, grammar, etc. A full version is being developed, and may be released in the future.
- Answer each question truthfully for accurate results.
- Use Google if you are unsure.
- Remember, this test is to be taken completely seriously, and the end result should be considered in any and all future decisions.
If you do not have a Facebook, add 45 to your F-IQ. This is your final score. See the grading chart below to see how you rank.

Sigh. Oh, Blimey Cow. This guy's delivery style always manages to perturb me, but I do concur with his dire analysis of the Internet's frequent linguistic failures.
ReplyDeleteI believe I have had 1 mistype in my last 10 posts(which, believe me, was quite embarrassing to admit, but it was unfortunately not rectifiable).
Also, if one has grammatical errors, would these not arise predominately from of a lack of understanding and therefore be undetectable by the offender? Merely postulating.
Sincerest gratitude for your enduring my sesquipedalian tirade.
Woah... That was one wordy comment. I have nothing more to say on the subject. =P
DeleteYES! I always knew I was a genius! Scored 240! :D
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog, and I saw this, and I had to do it. XD
