The Christmas Nail

We finally got around to setting up our Christmas tree today...

Setting up the tree is somewhat of a big to-do at our house, especially among the little folk.

Our tree is the kind that involves a fair bit of manual labor to get it assembled. Each branch has to be individually fluffed and put into its spot on the "trunk." Also, each layer has to be put on in order, or the whole thing gets confused.

And yes- that's why we like it.

In previous years, I've always been right up in the middle of the action when we're putting the tree together and getting ornaments on it. This year, for the most part, I just decided to take a step back and watch everyone else.

One of the things I did do today was hang my favorite ornament on the tree.
This ornament isn't brightly colored or sparkly. It doesn't catch the light or attract attention. In fact, most people probably wouldn't notice this ornament at all. And yet it is the single-most important one on our tree...

The Christmas Nail.

Our tree is a picture of the cross, and this nail is a reminder of why we can celebrate Christmas at all

We can celebrate Christmas because of the King who was born one night in a stable. We can celebrate Christmas because of what happened many years later when that same man took our sins upon Himself to be our Savior.
